Thoughts

Random thoughts that passed through my head today:
  1. Why do people believe that it is ok to throw garbage out of the window while they are driving...no it's not ok-don't pollute people.
  2. Why do people not know how to drive and talk on a cell phone...ok I know that there is plenty of research out there pointing to the fact that it really hinders driving, but if you can't handle it then do not do it. Do not drive 30 in a 45 in the left lane mind you!!!
  3. Why do people believe that it is acceptable to floss or cut your nails at your desk at work- it's not and that is uber gross.
  4. When will it be Spring?
  5. why do I still live in Illinois?
  6. I can't wait till Mary comes home...I miss her like crazy!!!
  7. Is it 4:30 yet?
  8. Is it Wednesday yet...Larry and Lost...yippy!!!
Ok that about sums it up. Well, besides for my search for a health club. I'm trying to decide if I want to stick with the Lisle PD or if I want to move onto bigger and better things. I do like the Lisle PD- it's small, to the point, in walking distance from my condo, and normally not too crowded, and cheap! it's also: too small so there is not alot of machines or variety. When people actually do show up, I'm waiting for the one of 3 treadmills. I guess you get what you pay for right?

I was thinking about maybe joining Edwards. It's still close to me- I could ride my bike there in warmer weather. It is nice and big, and has plenty of machines and a variety of them. I went and checked it out today, they have some of my favorite machines that I have been missing.

There is a $120 enrollment fee which is 60% off of their normal fee, and then $67 a month. I think that is alot...granted, I have never actually had to pay for my own membership to a gym thanks to my parents and the kindness of others. Maybe if I actually paid for it myself and saw the money that they are taking from me on a monthly basis, I would be more motivated to make sure I get my full dollars worth.

I went around 5 and it was not too crowded, which is good. Being that it is huge and nicely spread out, I doubt that it ever feels crowded in there...the parking lot was completely filled though. So I was surprised that it didn't feel crowded.

Cupcakes!

I went to La Petite Sweet in Westmont today to get some cupcakes to share with my family...we all had dinner together at my parent's house. Not only do they look pretty, but they also tasted really good. The frosting is a butter cream and was delightful.

The shop is really cute too. I love the dark wood tables.

If your in downtown Westmont, I would suggest stopping on by. The lattes are pretty yummy as well.

Horizontal Life

I just finished reading this book today and it was so hilarious. It is all about Chelsea Handler's sexual encounters and one night stands. It starts off with her walking in on her parents roll playing as a bet from her sibling. Her relationships with random men who have animal names such as Turtle, Chicken, and Roster...her escapades with black men . Her crazy drunkenness, which normally leads to her random sex, along with the many drugs she took. And then there was Nugget- the midget. I laughed out loud so many times while reading it. I love her way of escaping out of one night stands...saying she needs to get something from her car. Good thing she was smart and always insisted on having her car. My favorite was her cruise- where she slept with a 19 year old- she was 26.

Her writing style is brilliant, causal and sarcastic. It is an easy read, and very entertaining! I would recommend reading it!

Afternoon Venting

Today during lunch we had a chiropractic dr come talk to us. I learned that:
$501,000,000 is spent on Heart Disease per Day in the USA alone
$430,000,000 for cancer
$337,000,000 for digestive problems
$320,000,000 for obesity
$273,000, 000 for diabetes and
$118, 000, 000 for arthritis
Holy Crap!!!! All that money spent and we are still pretty much the worst in the western world when it comes to health care…that is so sad and depressing.
Besides the fact that this man was very intense, and sort of creepy- gave me the vibe of a chiro gone preacher, trying to overpower the world in a cult like fashion- he did say something that I really believe…people in this country are gullible. He referred to it as the “problem/pill/lotion.” A pill or lotion will not fix you…it’s only going to cover up the problem. There are so many commercial about taking magical drugs that will solve all your problems…granted some medications are necessary and will help- but the lotion that will make your fat rolls disappear? Come on! Or diet pills in general- NO…they will work for quick short term maybe- but in the long run, you’re only hurting yourself more.
Alright my venting is done!

Two Glasses of Wine

Two Glasses of Wine
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 glasses of wine...A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.Of course, the sand filled up everything else He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."The professor then produced two glasses of wine from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed."Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things; your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions; things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else; the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first, he continued, there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life: If you spend all your time and energy on the small Stuff.Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18 holes. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first; the Things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the wine represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of glasses of wine with a friend."

I got this as a forward, but I wanted to share. We could all use a little pick me up once in a while. Right now, there is pain and struggle affecting some of my loved ones. I wish that I had answers for them and that I could say the right thing to make it all better, to make their pain go away. Too bad that is not how the real world works. I just hope that they know I’m here for them and that I love and care for them. And…if they ever need a drink or two…I’m in!
Not only for them, but for all of us; our Country is in a “great recession.” People are losing their homes, jobs, and life savings in a matter of minutes. At a time like this, it can be hard to see the good. To remember to look at the big picture, to have faith that tomorrow will be better.
